Abstract
Reason can be defined in many ways, and more than one definition would be fertile ground for investigation in the Ajax. Perhaps the most tempting way to understand Reason, especially given the theme of insanity in the play, is as sanity; however, Reason might also be understood as an interpersonal phenomenon, the ability of individuals to ‘reason’ together, negotiating and arguing to reach an agreement. It is this agonistic (agonistic in that it is what characters attempt to do in an agon) sense of Reason I have chosen to examine.Authors who publish with this journal agree to the following terms:
