Abstract
The whole classical community in South Africa was deeply saddened by the tragic death of Dr Margaret Mezzabotta. As scholar and as teacher, Dr Mezzabotta left a lasting impression on everyone who had the opportunity to be acquainted with her, and her death leaves us with an acute sense of loss. As contributor and also as long-time referee, she played an important role in establishing and maintaining the quality of articles published in Akroterion. This volume of Akroterion is therefore dedicated to her memory. We are grateful to be able to publish one of her last articles in this volume. We also wish to thank Prof Joan Hambidge for permission to include the Afrikaans and English versions of a poem she wrote in memory of Maggie. As an experiment, articles published in this volume will be available on Akroterion’s website in PDF fomat.
